Ensemble Amorpha present Regency Reflections

9 Jun 2011

In response to Pablo Bronsteins Sketches for Regency Living, Ensemble Amorpha fuse Regency period characteristics of exploration, deviancy and beauty into live contemporary and classical music. The programme includes performances of Slogan 1 (Styles) and The Big 5-0 (Hindson) these works come via the Regency-established Australian colonies performed under the gaze of Captain James Cook's statue located on the Mall. The Molly-House by Michael Finnissy (2004), which will weave throughout the concert creating a reoccurring sonic backdrop, echos the decadency that thrived during the Regency period; Judith Weirs Sketches from a Bagpipers Album (1984), based on the story of a bagpiper in Prince Charlies Jacobite army who was captured and executed by the English after a judge classified the bagpipes as a weapon; and Schuberts (Regency) String Trio D471.

Programme (beginning at 8pm):

The Big 5-0 – Matthew Hindson – 12mins
Molly House – Michael Finnissy - flexible length
Sketches from a Bagpiper’s Album – Judith Weir - 10mins
