MULTIPLEXER
The Multiplexer is where the signs that describe and construct our world get analysed, manipulated, compressed and collided to generate new directions. The purpose of the Multiplexer is not the provision of finite answers but the construction of parallel complexities. In the Multiplexer time and space collapse into momentous artifice, which becomes part of that permanent flux of approximations that we call reality.
El Ultimo Grito is the creative partnership of Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo. They describe their work as rooted in design but no longer subdued to its disciplinary boundaries. They see design as 'the thing we do in order to understand design'. Read an interview with El Ultimo Grito about their exhibition at fig-2.
Roberto Feo is Professor of Design Practice at Goldsmiths University of London
Rosario Hurtado is Head of Department MA Space and Communication, HEAD Geneve.
They run the Goldsmith's based research unit Vehicles for Experimental Practice, from which they have started publishing MULTIPLEXER an international collaborative project in the shape of a book-zine.
In a series of ten lectures, Decommissioned seeks to address how strategies of disavowal, inactivity and transition are employed in contemporary art and design. When encountering cultural bias, uncertainty and co-option across the arts, how can the dominant flows of information, language, policy and ideology be circumvented? Curators, sociologists, artists, politicians, academics, queer-thinkers, bio-designers, film-theorists and others will respond through diverse fields of exciting and critical research.
This series is curated and convened by Dr. Stephen Wilson and is staged in collaboration with Chelsea College of Arts Postgraduate Community and the University of the Arts London, CCW Graduate School.
