This Cannes Film Festival favourite tells the story of an abandoned young boy who is taken under the kind wing of a local hairdresser. Eleven-year-old Cyril, the eponymous kid, is a quiet child left to fend for himself in a state-run children’s home after his father skips town.
Fate aligns his cheerless path with Samantha, who selflessly agrees to look after Cyril on weekends. The Kid with a Bike revels in the high drama of everyday life and is truly awe-inspiring in its sincerity and simplicity. Another joyous masterstroke from the auteur siblings.
