Crossings: Stories of Migration is an ICA-led UK-wide film and events programme supported by the BFI using National Lottery funding and in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and the School of Film & Television, Falmouth University
One of Israel’s most celebrated non-fiction filmmakers, Avi Mograbi, is known for his commitment to social, cultural and political justice in the Middle East. His urgent, subversive and uncompromising films such as Between Fences, Z32, Avenge But One of My Two Eyes and August: A Moment Before the Eruption explore the paradoxes of contemporary Israeli society and investigate socio-political inequalities more broadly.
In this masterclass, Mograbi will discuss the relation between the artistic creation and the political engagement of his work. He will reflect on the role of the filmmaker as an activist and documentary filmmaking as a site for political resistance and fight for social justice.
