In August 2003, New York lost electricity for more than 24 hours when a major electrical grid went down. Commuters were stuck in Manhattan and passengers were stranded at airports, people partied in the streets, some were stuck on the subways, air-conditioning failed during one of the hottest days of the year. Blackout explores how the everyday joys and struggles of a neighbourhood can be magnified during emergencies.
