BAFTA Masterclass - Editing with Valerio Bonelli

10 Jul 2014

Join us for a BAFTA Masterclass Lab with editor Valerio Bonelli, who has worked with director Stephen Frears on Philomena as well as his upcoming film on Lance Armstrong.

Valerio Bonelli edited Stephen Frears’s Philomena and is currently editing Frears’s film on the rise and fall of seven times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. Frears first met Valerio in 1999 at the National Film and Television School where he was his tutor.

Valerio’s eclectic taste across film genres has brought him to work on top productions across the Hollywood and independent spheres of drama, comedy, action, thriller, horror and documentary with some of the biggest names in the industry. Whilst studying at the NFTS he started assisting for Oscar-winning editor Pietro Scalia on Ridley Scott’s films (Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down) and later worked on Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. At the film school Valerio discovered his passion for documentary editing. Valerio likes to bring what he’s learnt in cutting documentaries to fiction and vice versa. Other notable collaborations are with writer/director Steven Knight on his debut film Hummingbird and with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s Cemetery Junction as well as Jordan Scott’s Cracks.

BAFTA Masterclass Labs are monthly events where innovative talents from the film and television industries share their creative practices with the audience. Sessions are illustrated with clips or other media, and with much time for questions. These masterclass labs give the audience an opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the industries’ exceptional newer talents.
