The ICA’s Art Rules website was an online forum designed to generate debate around contemporary art.
The website asked visitors to answer the question: "What is art?" Their answers appeared on the website for other visitors to comment on, and conversations were started around the submitted 'rules'. Visitors 'Agreed' or 'Disagreed' with these rules - as well as sharing rules using Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
The more people that 'Agreed' with a rule, the larger it appeared on the website, and vice versa. The website was seeded with a number of rules written by leading artists, curators and critics. This served as inspiration for visitors and enabled the site to become a repository of outstanding thinking as well as a community of cultural commentators.
The Art Rules project ended in Autumn 2014.
