Transmission

Transmission provides a place where artists can meet, talk and exhibit along with their local and international peers and infl uences. Fundamentally artist-run and committed to refl ecting the needs and concerns of artists in Scotland, the gallery provides a crucial context for practice to develop and broaden outside of the pressures of a commercial art world. Established in 1983 in response to the scarcity of Glasgow exhibition spaces for early-career artists, Transmission maintains a commitment to a collective ethos and continues to focus on serving a community of which it is intrinsically part. Membership is open to anybody, and members receive a regular newsletter and entitlement to submit work to the annual members' exhibition. They are also invited to submit work for inclusion in the gallery archive that is available for view by visiting curators and researchers. Recent exhibitions include a two-person show by Los Angeles-based artists Jennifer West and George Ziffo, and a solo show by London-based artist Lois Rowe.

Transmission and Studio Voltaire recently co-produced a performance work by Donald Urquhart.
