Founded in Wales in 2000, and in direct response to the paucity of independent cinema in the region, Rêl Institiwt stages regular alternative film nights and one-off events involving a variety of art forms. Deliberately without permanent residence, Rêl Institiwt's unofficial philosophy is this: “The popular notion that the best of contemporary art can only successfully occur in areas of high population density and that rural areas should be left with a blend of un-ambitious mediocrity is twaddle and dangerous twaddle at that.” Previous projects include Really Restrictive Shorts, Soporific and Un-Wanted Djs.
