Based in Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee, Exhibitions Department is dedicated to working with contemporary artists, designers and cultural practitioners from the UK and abroad, while supporting teaching activity and developing significant opportunities with staff and students. Run by curator Jenny Brownrigg and assistant curator Laura Simpson, it manages a number of spaces, including Cooper Gallery, which features four major curated shows each year and comprises emerging and established contemporary practitioners; meanwhile Lower Foyer Gallery is committed to student-led projects. The innovative programme of exhibitions, performance, seminars, artist talks and outreach aims to explore the creative, social and educational impact of contemporary arts practice. Previous shows include Tim Knowles & Torsten Lauschmann's The Autonomy of the Object (2007); and I Gave You Life (2007), with Erica Eyres, Nathalie Djurberg, Eri Itoi and Kirsty Whiten. Exhibitions Department, with School of Fine Art, is currently co-hosting a two-year residency for Map magazine.
