The Collective Gallery was established in 1984 as an artist-run space that supported and promoted emerging practice. Since then the organisation has become a pioneering exhibition, commissioning and development agency that supports new work and connects artists with diverse communities. Over two decades the Collective has built a reputation for its consistent support of relevant, socially-engaged and challenging projects through its regular exhibition programme: including New Work Scotland Programme, which spots and supports new ideas by emerging artists; and One Mile, a three-year programme introducing groups and individuals – who live or work within a one-mile radius of the gallery – to artists, in order to facilitate work of mutual interest.
