Established in 1997 in response to the growing network of contemporary arts organisations within Scotland, Changing Room is the only organisation of its kind outside the main cities in Scotland's central belt. The gallery focuses on supporting emerging practice while also bringing work by more established artists to Stirling. Changing Room's programme has featured early career solo exhibitions – with artists such as Nathan Coley, Victoria Morton and Duncan Marquiss – alongside group projects such as Tender Scene (2007), with Fiona Jardine, Alex Pollard, Clare Stephenson and Gregor Wright. The gallery's location offers a unique critical space for artists, and the organisation supports practical development and the commissioning of critical and creative writing. The forthcoming programme includes Katy Dove and Luke Fowler's research project, using the University of Stirling archives of filmmakers John Grierson and Norman McLaren.
