Performance: If You Fail to Cross The Rubicon

4 Mar 2017

Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro presents a new iteration of If You Fail to Cross The Rubicon, an evolving durational performance. This performance is presented in connection with the Performance and Uncertainty Symposium.

If You Fail To Cross The Rubicon is a series of works investigating archival narratives of colonial memory. A decolonial practice is suggested as a body knowledge of "un-archiving", a procedure allowing accessibility and historical memory to be narrated through other sensory means. Based on jazz music titles and movie scores used in anti-colonial and resistance movements in wartime Germany, the series builds propositions for monuments for those who remained edited from historical knowledge and may allow different stories to shape the way we see ourselves today.

Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Gabon and now based in Berlin, whose works develop projects between communities and collect fractured narratives for social change through identity, memory, dialogue, history and multi-lingualisms. She investigates the creolisation of identities which comment on the fractured senses of the human condition and its constructions. Her practice involves interrogating counter-historical narratives and landscapes of speculative futures and the geopolitical imaginary.
