Gallery Tour: Gilly Booth

7 Jan 2016

Join Gilly Booth on a gallery tour through the Radical Disco: Architecture and Nightlife in Italy, 1965-1975 ICA Fox Reading Room display. The event will start in Cinema 2 with a screening of Space Electronic, then & now, a collaboration between Gilly Booth and Cat Rossi, and will then move into the ICA Fox Reading Room.

Gilly Booth works with moving image and sound and is the co-director of hijack film production. Her films and installations have been exhibited at ICA London, Pompidou Centre Paris, Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, MOMA New York, and Venice Architecture Biennale.

Booth’s films connect modernist architecture with new inhabitants and histories. Her films have interrogated the settings of 1960s French and Italian film in the context of new media. She uses documentary techniques to dramatize the standard encounters between reality and fiction. The subject is translation, whether immediate or through memory. The films re-visit abandoned sites and images, through archives, interviews and found footage. They are re-mediated for the viewer within a cinematic or installation context.

Delivered by artist, curators and cultural practitioners, each gallery tour offers a unique perspective on our exhibitions.
