11 Oct 2015

BFI London Film Festival: 238 films. From 71 countries. 16 cinemas. 12 days. One Festival.

When Luciana and Pedro meet at a fancy dress party, something between them clicks. Their passionate relationship takes them across the citywith a series of wonderfully droll conversations in the back of a taxiand up north to the Volcano National Park of Rincón de la Vieja (which translates as ‘Old Woman’s Corner’), where Pedro is due to undertake some fieldwork for his thesis. Shot in a warm black and white palette, with a dynamic score by Alejandro Fernández, Viaje is a touching portrait of emotional intimacy realised with humour and tenderness.

Costa Rican filmmaker Paz Fábrega, a graduate of the London Film School, builds on the promise displayed in her first feature, Cold Water of the Sea (LFF2010), crafting a luminous reflection on the intoxicating nature of desire, as played out in the magical landscape of Rincón de la Vieja.
