A tender look at the life of portraitist Alice Neel, whose deceptively simple paintings, with their striking tension between foreground subject and background, were embraced in the 70s, some 50 years after she began to work. Director Andrew Neel - the artist's grandson - sheds light on some of the personal stories behind the art through interviews with Neel herself, family members and archive clips.
