Firaaq

25 Mar 2009

Firaaq begins in 2002 in the Indian state of Gujarat, where 3,000 Muslims died in riots and fighting between Muslims and Hindus. When Hanif and Muneera return to the modest home they had fled during the violence, they find it ransacked, and Hanif seeks revenge. This is just one of a number of narratives that play out over the film's 24-hour period, as characters of both faiths and from many levels of society grapple with the new, post-violence reality.
