8 Mar 2008 – 13 Mar 2008
Two startling recent documentaries. 2007 Oscar-winner Blood of Yingzhou District (Dir Ruby Yang, China/US 2006, 39 mins, subtitles, Cert PG) reveals the ferocious resolve of Gao Jun, a young Aids orphan whose extended family are debating whether or not to keep him. In Journey of a Red Fridge (Dir Lucian Muntean, Nataša Stankovic, Serbia 2007, 52 mins, subtitles, Cert U) we follow Nepalese teenager Hari Rai on a four-day trek as a porter across the Himalayas, with a huge Coca-Cola refrigerator on his back, trying to raise money to fund his studies.
