This Week at the ICA
ICA Executive Director Gregor Muir picks his highlights this week.

On Wednesday 1 May we have BAFTA Masterclass Labs with Mat Whitecross who discusses his diverse directing credits, and how he has managed to move between television, music videos, feature films and documentaries. Whitecross has directed Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010), co-directed The Road to Guantanamo (2006), and his most recent feature film is Spike Island (2012).
Also on Wednesday, we have a panel discussion Peer to Platform: Artist Collective vs. Social Network, which explores the overlaps between the ways in which radical artist collectives function as opposed to how individuals operate within the most contemporary of frameworks, the social network. Chaired by Ben Vickers, the panel will comprise Lizvlx from UBERMORGEN.COM, Metahaven, and Ruth Catlow from Furtherfield.
Among films at the ICA this week we have The Place Beyond the Pines directed by Derek Cianfrance that explores masculinity, class, and father-son relationships. The Agnès Varda Season continues this week with The Beaches of Agnès and The Gleaners and I. And on Thursday 2 May we have a screening of Querelle, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s final film based on Jean Genet's Querelle de Brest (1947) that follows a sailor caught in the throes of love and hate.
On Friday 3 May please join us for an evening of hand-drawn films by American director Don Hertzfeldt. Time Out's Tom Huddleston and Little White Lies' David Jenkins will present Hertzfeldt's debut feature It's Such a Beautiful Day alongside a selection of his incredible short works. And the Artists’ Film Club on Saturday 4 May features Mexican artist Abraham Cruzvillegas and a screening of his work Autoconstrucción (2011), that draws together his interests in society, class, sex and gender.
Culture Now this Friday 3 May has celebrated British writer Rick Poynor discussing the work of Dom Sylvester Houédard. This talk coincides with the recent publication of Notes from the Cosmic Typewriter: The Life and Work of Dom Sylvester Houédard, which is devoted to the extraordinary British Benedictine monk Houédard and his work as a scholar, translator, concrete poet and artist. And a recent talk I did with the artist Oscar Murillo at Dover Street Arts Club is now available for viewing on the ICA YouTube channel. I look forward to seeing you at the ICA very soon.
