Blondie. Punk and Shangri-Las and rap and reggae and Bowie and Fripp and Warhol and beauty. Nobody else ever did that. The Ramones were more punk and Talking Heads were more art and Television had a clever guitar but Blondie – the pop group, with the girl – managed to make pop music better and stuffed it with everything new. They even made disco look sexy, at a time when disco was your uncle in trousers made of static electricity. They were copied to bits – from The Doll to Transvision Vamp, there have been a million Blondies, but none of them ever made anything look easy, let alone sound good. Blondie were the most beautiful woman in the world, singing a ridiculous variety of astonishing songs. Even their comeback single is great.

We’re here to talk about Blondie. It’s a pleasure.
