Announced today, and running for two weeks only from 21 July - 4 August, the ICA takes over 1960s Shoreditch landmark The Great Eastern Street NCP Car Park with ART DRIVE!, an exhibition of BMW cars transformed into artworks by leading international artists from 1975 - 2010, shown here for the first time in the UK.

The exhibition features cars by artists: Alexander Calder, Sandro Chia, Ken Done, Ernst Fuchs, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Matazo Kayama, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Esher Mahlangu, Cesar Manrique, M.J Nelson, A.R Penck, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol.

Jenny Holzer transferred her now infamous conceptual Truisms to the body of the car using reflective foil and phosphorescent colour. David Hockney's 1995 Art Car paints the inside of the car on the outside, revealing everything from the engine, to his dog on the back seat. Rauschenberg's incorporates transfers of Ingres paintings, while Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons use the surface of the car to portray the essence of speed.

We're working with some of the most exciting emerging names in design from the East End to help deliver this project: Julia and Loop.pH, making a significant and original contribution to the Cultural Olympiad celebrations. Come down and get involved!
